The first time the Barracuda Email Security Gateway quarantines an email intended for you, the system sends you a greeting message with a subject line of User Quarantine Account Information.
The greeting message contains the following information:. Welcome to the Barracuda Email Security Gateway. This message contains the information you will need to access your Spam Quarantine and Preferences.
Your account has been set to the following username and password:. Access your Spam Quarantine directly using the following link:. The Barracuda Email Security Gateway automatically provides your login information username and password and the link to access the quarantine interface. You should save this email because future messages from the system do not contain your login information. The Barracuda Email Security Gateway sends you a daily quarantine summary report so you can view the quarantined messages you did not receive.
From the quarantine summary report you can also add messages to your Allow List, delete messages, and have messages delivered to your inbox. Note that the quarantine summary report only goes out if new quarantined mail is saved in your account since the last notification cycle. Each day the quarantine notification service runs for all users. If there is no new quarantined mail for your account since the last notification cycle, or if you have logged into your account since then, no quarantine summary report will be generated and sent to you for that same 24 hour period.
Note also that links in the quarantine digest for viewing, delivering, Allow Listing or deleting a message from the quarantine inbox expire in 5 days from the date the digest is sent out. At the end of every quarantine summary report is a link to the quarantine interface where you can set additional preferences and classify messages as spam and not spam.
If your administrator has configured automatic log-in for your quarantine inbox, you will see a link in your quarantine notification email message. You can click on that link and automatically log into the Barracuda Email Security Gateway to view your quarantine inbox and manage your settings.
If this feature has NOT been enabled by your adminitrator, do the following to log in:. When you first start using the quarantine interface, you should view this list on a daily basis and classify as many messages as you can. Clicking on an email displays the message. The Barracuda Email Security Gateway has a Bayesian learning engine which, if enabled by your administrator, learns how to deal with future messages based on the ones you classify as spam and not spam.
The learning engine becomes more effective over time as you teach the system how to classify messages and as you set up rules based on your Allow List and Block List. Not every attack is focused on getting users to send their credit card number, getting users to click on a malicious link, or to plant a virus. Often, the objective of the attack is focused on disabling a network or mitigating its effectiveness. As a cloud-based service, the Barracuda Email Security Gateway is positioned to stop spammers before they overload an email server.
The Barracuda Email Security Gateway ensures that email can still be delivered even during email server failures or loss of connectivity. In the event of on-premises disruptions, email can be spooled in the Cloud Protection Layer for up to 96 hours. An alternate destination can also be specified for delivery, if delivery to the primary destination fails.
During email server outages, the email for all mail servers is visible through the Cloud Protection Layer. From the message log, you can see the status of all spooled emails, and whether mail has been re-delivered. The Barracuda Email Security Gateway is integrated with a cloud-based service that pre-filters email before delivery to the on-site Barracuda Email Security Gateway.
The Cloud Protection Layer is continuously updated with definitions in real time with updates from Barracuda Central. By leveraging the bandwidth and computing power of the CPL, organizations can easily scale their email security solution.
