So any advice on how to install a driver in compatibility mode or to force the lower versioned driver to be installed is appreciated. I did have to go to the device manager and update the drivers by looking for the location manually. If at any point windows was allowed to have any part in the selection process, it would tell me it had up to date drivers. So it takes a bit of fiddling but once you bypass windows and get the driver on there it seems to work fine.
